The perspective behind Van Meter Law was not developed from a single side of the table. Stephanie’s career has taken her inside some of the nation’s largest employers, public service, and ultimately into private practice — giving her a unique understanding of the organizations she represents today.
Corporate Experience
Stephanie began her legal career with the world’s largest brick and mortar retailer where she supported Risk Management and gained firsthand experience with the legal and operational needs of the business.
Her work included litigation management and the development of programs focused on medical cost control and reducing claim exposure. She served on the Physician Advisory Board, worked with retail associations on legislative reform, and ultimately managed the employer’s California workers’ compensation office.
Public Service | Ohio Attorney General’s Office
After relocating to Ohio, Stephanie joined the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office as a litigator.
She was later appointed Assistant Chief Deputy in the Education Section, where she served as general counsel to Ohio’s public colleges and universities.
Her work expanded beyond workers’ compensation to include employment matters, contracts, employee handbooks, student conduct, FERPA, public records, and internal pre-disciplinary hearings. Stephanie further served as a hearing officer for internal pre-disciplinary hearings and traveled extensively across the state of Ohio, speaking at multiple venues providing client education.
During her tenure, Stephanie received the Ohio Attorney General Excellence and Innovation Award.
Private Practice | Van Meter Law
Today, Van Meter Law provides counsel in employment law, workers’ compensation defense, business law, and workplace training and education.
Her focus is providing counsel to employers to effectively manage the relationship with employees, including drafting company policies and procedures and provides strategic solutions to ensure compliance with the multitude of laws and regulations. Stephanie also enjoys providing her clients with educational seminars as she strongly believes that prevention is the best practice for avoiding costly litigation and building a safe, successful, and strong business.
